T20 World Cup: Netherlands stun Nepal in low-scoring thriller

Max O'Dowd stars with bat and ball as Dutch clinch narrow victory

The Netherlands pulled off a thrilling three-run victory over Nepal in a low-scoring encounter at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 on Tuesday. Max O'Dowd was the star of the show for the Dutch, scoring 35 runs and taking two wickets.

Batting first, the Netherlands were bowled out for just 112 in 19.3 overs. O'Dowd was the only batsman to offer any resistance, hitting four boundaries and a six in his 35-ball knock.

Nepal's bowlers were in fine form, with Sandeep Lamichhane taking 3-20 and Avinash Bohora claiming 2-16. The Dutch innings also featured a bizarre run-out, with Bas de Leede being dismissed after colliding with his own teammate, Ryan ten Doeschate.

In reply, Nepal struggled to chase down the modest target. They lost wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for 109 in 19.1 overs.

O'Dowd was the pick of the Dutch bowlers, taking 2-19 from his four overs. He was ably supported by Paul van Meekeren, who took 2-22.

The victory was a vital one for the Netherlands, who are now in contention for a place in the Super 12s. Nepal, meanwhile, will need to win their remaining two matches to have any chance of progressing.
